Angus Whyte

Angus founded Land Law in 1998 with the strongly held belief that it should be possible to deliver city centre quality legal services to clients for fair and reasonable fees by cutting past the bureaucracy and overheads which plague larger firms. By adopting a highly innovative and visionary approach to working practices and the use of IT Angus has turned this belief into the successful firm which Land Law is today.

Angus is proud of the fact that Land Law is unashamedly niche and sticks to what it is good at and does not “dabble”. Most of the firm’s work comes from 20 – 30 major clients and Land Law strives to work in close partnership with them.

From the very start Angus saw the huge potential for improving the legal services which could be offered by embracing emerging technology. Clever use of IT means Land Law is able to offer exceptional services to its clients through its website portal, which has been developed to allow clients online access in real time to all their files and documents with only minimal set up costs to the firm. Many clients now rely on Land Law’s online deeds stores to assist them in the management of their properties and completion of their transactions and consider this just one way in which Land Law provides them with added value.

Angus’s strong commitment to his staff and to providing the Land Law lawyers with the best administrative support possible also means that Angus has also achieved his aim of making Land Law a great place to work – a fact which is testified by its growth over the past years to its current size of 50 individuals. There is a genuine collegiate atmosphere with our lawyers and supporting staff helping one another. Good work life balance is encouraged and the firm does as much as it can to show appreciation to its staff whenever possible.

When not running the firm, Angus deals in all aspects of the acquisition, development, management and disposal of a wide range of commercial properties, acting principally for landlords and developers. Angus has a loyal client following, many of whom have been with him since the inception of Land Law, and many of whom Angus counts as friends.

Before setting up Land Law Angus trained and qualified at Freshfields in 1989 before joining Addleshaw Sons and Latham (now Addleshaw Goddard LLP) in 1993, becoming a partner in 1996.

Angus is ranked as a Band 2 ‘leader in the field’ by Chambers and Partners Guide 2020. His citation states that Angus “possesses significant experience in an array of commercial property matters particularly acquisitions and disposals.”

Angus is also rated as a Leading Individual in the Legal 500 2019 where he is described as “exceptional”. In previous editions he has also been noted for his ‘very strong commercial acumen, common sense and business-minded approach’.
